Websites, resources and activity ideas for home schooling

Where to start? So much out there it is really confusing, so, what I have done is to put together some of the sites I use in the classroom on a daily basis with the children. Some of which your children will know, which is great that only helps to build their confidence and maybe they can teach the grown-ups a thing or two!

I will in the coming days try to get this into an order or categories but felt that at this moment in time something was better than nothing!

The sites and resources I have chosen are mainly for children aged between 3-6 years, but some may be suitable for older and I will indicate if this is the case.

There are a few sites and activities that have started as a response to the Corona Virus outbreak and the closure of the schools. I will list these first.

Websites that normally charge

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/ - Twinkl gives you access to 100's of resources from worksheets to Powerpoints, all sorts of templates, most of these you have access to a printer to be able to print out and use.

www.themathsfactor.com - Carol Vorderman - This is a maths website normally has a subscription but is free while schools are closed.

https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ - this site is widely used in schools to support the learning of phonics. It uses games to help the children learn sounds. Some parts are free but again at this time it is all free access. In fact, this website has had a re-launch and has a useful parents section explaining about phonics.

Special daily items during school closure

https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses - stories every day at 11am - More suited to older children.

Spread the happiness channel: Shonette Bason Wood – Dough Disco and other stuff live each day at 9.30 & 1pm - grab your dough and dance along. Also, stories on there.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj0shfH3pzhrf3dOrSj_pRw

https://www.eyfshome.com/ - This is a totally new site in response to the Corona virus outbreak to give you daily tasks/activities for you and your young child to do.

Websites I use in the Early Years/Key Stage 1

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ - lots and lots of games from early years to KS2

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-songs-medleys/zf2792p - Nursery rhymes, action songs, number songs to sing along to. Also, listening skills & music and movement activities.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize - this is for all ages, all subjects

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies - not just for the TV shows on iplayer but lots of games, activities and songs. There's a grown -up section at the top of the home page, scroll down and things split usefully into topics.
